Golden Jubilee (2001)

The Golden Jubilee Celebrations of this College was inaugurated on 23rd July 2001 by Thavathiru Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigalar under the presidentship of the Most Revered Peter Fernando, Bishop of Tuticorin and in the presence of The Right Reverend Jeyabal David, Bishop of Tirunelveli diocese. Both the Bishops are our Alumni. Foundation for the proposed Golden Jubilee Building was also laid by Thavathiru Ponnambala Adigalar. Haji Fathu Rabbani, Secretary, Sadakhathulla Appa College offered felicitations. Dr. R. Perumalsamy, Member TNPSC also graced the occasion.

A Mini Marathon Race was held on 22nd July 2001 as a prelude to the Golden Jubilee Celebrations and the race was flagged off by Thiru S.R.Jangid, I.P.S., Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range. Nearly 1000 men and boys and 200 women and girls took part in the Marathon Race.

An Arts and Science Exhibition was held from 13th August 2001, the memorial Day of our Founder Secretary Kulapathi A. P. C. Veerabahu to 19th August 2001. Thiru M.Krishnamoorthy, Chairman, Tamilnadu Mercantile Bank declared open the exhibition under the presidentship of Thiru M.Machendranathan, Chairman, Tuticorin Port Trust. Around 30,000 students from the Schools and Colleges of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli Districts and around 10,000 people from other walks of life witnessed the Exhibition. Indeed the Exhibition was a grand success. The different exhibits showed that our students could narrow down the gap between laboratory and land and could demonstrate abilities to facilitate interaction between industry and institution.

Golden Jubilee festive mood also generated academic activities of enduring nature. Seminars and workshops were arranged by all the faculties. The schedule of academic activities are given below.

Cultural contests, Veecofift for school students & and College students 11th, 12th & 13th October 2001

As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, Southern Districts Inter Collegiate Foot Ball Tournament was held on 10th, 11th, 12th September 2001 and Basket Ball Tournament on 17th, 18th & 19th September 2001. Our College Team was the runner up in Foot Ball and Winner in Basket Ball Tournaments. Wakf Board College Team was the winner in Foot Ball and runners up in Basket Ball Tournaments. Southern Districts Inter-collegiate Staff Tennis Tournament was held on 23rd & 24th February 2002 in our College Courts.

Special Cover with a Golden Jubilee logo and the photograph of the Majestic College function was held on 18.11.2001 and Tmty Shanthi Nair, Post-Master General, Coimbatore Region, participated. Thiru V.O.C.Valacewaran son of Late V. O. Chidambaram Pillai received the first cover at the function.

A National Seminar on Information and Technology was held on 16th & 17th March 2002 as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in which executives from 10 leading computer Software / Hardware Companies spread over India attended the seminar and delivered lectures. Tata Consultancy Service, Wipro, HCL, Radiant are among the 10 companies.

Veecofift cultural contests for College students was held on 23rd & 24th March 2002. Nearly 350 students hailing from 25 colleges affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University actively took part in the Contests.

UGC Sponsored National Seminar on “Exploration Mining and Processing of Beach Placer in India” was conducted on 24th & 25th January 2002. Dr N.Chandrasekar, Reader in Geology was the Convener. Leading Geologists took part in the Seminar.

A Special Lecture on “Environment, Development People’s participation” was delivered by Tmty Sheela Rani Chunkath, I.A.S, Chairperson Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board, Chennai on 18.10.2001.

A free eye camp was arranged in association with Arvind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli in August 2001 as apart of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. 40 people from our area underwent cataract operation at Tirunelveli. 85 people were provided treatment as out patients. As part of Golden Jubilee extension activities,our NSS Volunteers laid a pukka road at Keela Cheithalai and the management donated Rs.15000/- and the Villagers had bus services after a gap of ten years.

Two computers with printer and other accessories were presented to the Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital through Hon’ble Minister Chemmalai, Minister for Health and Family welfare, Government of Tamilnadu.

All our efforts could fructify because of the untiring efforts of our teaching and non teaching staff. The general public of Tuticorin extended their wholehearted support. With a little more effort we hope to achieve excellence in various fields in the coming years. We invoke the blessings of the Almighty God to accomplish the same.
