Postgraduate Department of Physics

The Department of Physics offers B.Sc. Physics since 1951 and M. Sc. Physiscs (Unaided) since 2003. The curriculum was updated and evaluation process was restructured by introducing Choice Based Credit System and internal assessment in 2008. Teachers are well versed in computer and possess qualification in computer application. They make use of ICT based teaching method.

Postgraduate and Research Department of Chemistry

The Postgraduate and Research Department of chemistry has been offering B.Sc. Chemistry since in 1957, M.Sc. Chemistry since 1970, M.Sc. Chemistry (unaided) since 1987, M.Sc. Nano Science since 2012, M.Phil. Chemistry since 1987, and Ph.D. since 1987. The thrust areas of research are Nano Chemistry and the Material Chemistry. The department follows Choice Based Credit System [CBCS] with continuous assessment. The department has a DST–FIST funded laboratory and a DST fasttrack scheme laboratory.

Postgraduate and Research Department of Botany

The Postgraduate and Research Department of Botany has been offering B.Sc. Botany since 1964, M.Sc. Botany since 1987 and PhD Botany since 2008. The priority areas of research are Seed Biochemistry, Ethnopharmacology, Seaweeds and Seagrasses research and utilization. The Department follows Choice Based Credit System and internal assessment. It has a research laboratory equipped with instruments bought under UGC and MOEF projects. It also has a separate Research Centre where texts, reference books, dissertations and thesis are kept for use by research scholars.

Postgraduate and Research Department of Zoology

The Postgraduate and Research Department of Zoology has been offering B. Sc. Zoology since 1957, M. Sc. Zoology since 1985, M. Phil. Zoology since 1987, and Ph.D. Zoology since 1994. The priority areas of research are Aquaculture, Hydrobiology and Plankatanology. The curriculum was updated and evaluation process was restructured by introducing Choice Based Credit System and internal assessment in 2008. The department has a computer, Museum, DST – FIST funded research laboratory equipped with instruments like GLC, AAS etc.

Postgraduate and Research Department of Geology

The Postgraduate and Research Department of Geology offers B. Sc. Geology since 1964, M. Sc. Geology since 1980 and Ph.D. Geology since 1991. Priority areas of research are Hydro Geology, Tectonics, Seismotectonics, Mineralogy, Petrology, Medical Geology and GIS and Remote Sensing. The curriculum was updated and evaluation process was restructured by introducing Choice Based Credit System and internal assessment in 2008. All the teachers are involved in the personal and academic counseling of students.

Postgraduate Department of Computer Science

The Postgraduate Department of Computer Science offers B. Sc. computer science since 1998 and M. Sc. Computer Science since 2003. In addition to these degree courses , the department offers Certificate courses in DTP and Tally. The curriculum was updated and evaluation process was restructured by introducing Choice Based Credit System and internal assessment in 2008. Laptop with LCD projector is used for teaching and learning processes. The professors are involved in consultancy work by giving computer training to the judicial officers of the Thoothukudi District Magistrate court. The credit for doing automation work in the college office and library goes to the teachers of the Computer department.
