V.O.Chidambaram College has truly been a fortress of quality education in Thoothukudi city. The college that imparts value-based education to all sections of the society, has got more expedient place for women through the emergence of Women Counselling Cell. The co-educational institution has the total strength of 954 and 248 girl students in aided and un-aided stream respectively. Currently, 24 lady professors in aided stream and 13 professors in un-aided stream are contributing for the better outreach.

Objectives
Involvement of Girl Students
The Department of Physical Education conducts various sports events and games for the girl students of the college. The college girl students have won laurels in inter-collegiate and university level tournaments. The youth welfare council also encourages active participation of girl students in various cultural programmes.
Activities
The counselling cell since its inception has been highly active and it conducts a wide range of programmes to promote emotional resilience and wellness of girl students.
Every year, the cell sets platforms for guest lectures by eminent doctors, adept lawyers, and social activists to bring out the emotional, physical and intellectual well-being of our girl students.
The cell also ensures the active participation of girl students and women faculty of the college to participate in seminars and programmes related to women welfare.
WCC conducts induction programme for the first year girl students every year to get them exposed to the college rules and norms, discipline and the opportunities available.
Women Counselling Cell celebrates International Women’s Day every year and it conducts various competitions to bring out the latent talents of girl students.
It conducts various awareness programmes exclusively for girl students.
The cell also provides medical assistance by running dispensary cum stationery in every department.
