Course Details :
With a fore vision of the importance of English language in international job market, B.A. English was introduced to cater to the needs of the students in and around Thoothukudi. Bachelor of Arts in English provides an excellent space for fixing them in different jobs as well as a space to do spade work to pursue Research in higher levels.
The course extends to a period of three years covering six semesters (Students should complete the same in a stipulated time). Course curriculum is designed by the Board of Studies, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Thirunelveli in such a manner to prepare the students to understand and use the English Language effectively and expose thereby to develop their critical thinking. Students of B.A. English learn diverse textual contents like poetry, prose, fiction, criticism, and critical approaches belonging to different ages in order to enhance their application skill. Literature is highly interdisciplinary opening up vistas to learn history especially historical movements and the cultural politics of England, and other English dominant Postcolonial literatures of the world with reference to the ethnicity of respective nations.
Special focus on Grammar and usage enhances the communicative competence of the students improving grammatical skill. This enables them to pronounce the words correctly and speak in English confidently. Sense of genre is created among the students; by studying various genres and forms of literature they gain a deeper understanding of the resources and use appropriate skills for various communicative functions in different socio-cultural contexts. The course also facilitates them to read fast with better understanding and to express themselves clearly and concisely using right words in right places. Students get familiarize with world classics written and translated into English so that they will be acquainted with the global literary and cultural sensibilities. Emphasis is also given to Regional Literature in English which helps them exposed to the rich literary heritage of India.
B.A. English offers an infinite stream of knowledge to satisfy an unquenchable thirst that yearns to know more in the discipline. The course in literature for students paves way for lots of career options such as,
1. Translator in Government Agencies like Embassies of foreign countries and ministry of
External affairs.
2. Tourist guides in Travel Agencies.
3. Employment opportunities in KPOs, BPOs as communicator and event manager in Public
relation and entertainment field.
4. Educational institutions - Coaching centres, Government Departments, Language institutions,
Translation centre, English Trainees, Custom Support Executive, film industry as creative
writer.
