The Postgraduate and Research Department of chemistry has been offering B.Sc. Chemistry since in 1957, M.Sc. Chemistry since 1970, M.Sc. Chemistry (unaided) since 1987, M.Sc. Nano Science since 2012, M.Phil. Chemistry since 1987, and Ph.D. since 1987. The thrust areas of research are Nano Chemistry and the Materials Chemistry. The department follows Choice Based Credit System [CBCS] with continuous assessment. The department has a DST–FIST funded laboratory which hosts state-of-the-art instruments like AFM, FTIR with ATR, UV-Vis with DRS etc. and a DST FastTrack scheme laboratory. It also a runs a magazine 'Chemlet'.
