The Department of Mathematics started its journey with the B.Sc. Mathematics programme in the year 1957. M.Sc. Mathematics programme was introduced in 1983. The department has offered the Ph.D. programme since 2008. The department is enriched with a team of faculty who are specialized in different areas like Topology, Graph Theory, Operations Research, Computational Complexity, Stochastic Differential Equations, Fuzzy Logic and Numerical Analysis. The department publishes an e-magazine ‘Math Myst’ every semester, with contributions from students and faculty, accentuated by a students’ editorial board.
Apart from the curriculum, the department trains the students for competitive examinations like TNPSC, Bank exams, NET/GATE, etc. and for placement in various companies. Also, to kindle the interest in Mathematics among school students, every year we conduct a Quiz programme (QMAT) for Higher Secondary students at the district level, since 2001.
