B.Sc.Botany
Course Details :
Botany, also called plant science(s), plant biology or phytology, is a branch of biology, which is the scientific study of plant life including Algae, Fungi, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. It is a broad, multidisciplinary subject with inputs from most other areas of biology including Morphology, Anatomy, Systematics and Taxonomy, Ecology, Embryology, Pathology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Phytochemistry, Horticulture, Plant Breeding, Paleobotany, Ethnobotany, Medicinal Botany, Economic Botany, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, etc.
The course is very accurately structured as mostly all the theory papers are accompanied by practical sessions to provide a hands-on experience to the students in understanding the concepts through practical knowledge.
A guide will address the students the task of planning and conducting a small research project for a dissertation in the 3rd year. Students will be asked to generate a topic for them, to plan and execute a project investigating that topic, and to write-up what they did and what their findings are in the form of dissertation.
Careers :
There are several careers for botany graduates, including teacher, plant scientist, paleobotanist, taxonomist, ethnobotanist, phycologist, mycologist, bryologist, pteridologist, biophysicist, plant biochemist, genetist, molecular biologist, biological technician, agronomist, ecologist, environmental consultant, plant conservationist, forest department rangers, farming consultant, horticulturist and plant pathologist.
Duration : 3 Years [Divided into 6 semesters.]
Eligibility : Students who have passed higher secondary education or 10+2 with Botany, Zoology, (biology) and Chemistry are eligible to take admission in this course.
Sanctioned Strength : 40
